Mysuru Dasara 2024: Gajapayana Elephant Procession Embarks, Preparations Begin for World-Famous Festival

Nine Elephants, Led by Abhimanyu, Commence Journey

Mysuru, Karnataka - The first batch of nine elephants, including the renowned Abhimanyu, embarked on their journey from the Bandipur Tiger Reserve, marking the commencement of preparations for the world-famous Mysuru Dasara festival 2024.

The elephants will be welcomed at the Mysore Palace on August 23, followed by the Gajapayana ritual on August 21.

Abhimanyu to Carry Golden Howdah Again

Once again, Abhimanyu, the caparisoned howdah elephant, will carry the Golden Howdah during the festival. The Golden Howdah is a majestic seat adorned with gold and jewels, which the Maharaja of Mysore traditionally rides during the grand procession.

Gajapayana: A Significant Ritual

The Gajapayana procession is a significant ritual that marks the official start of Dasara preparations. During the ceremony, the elephants are offered a ceremonial puja (worship) and led through the streets of Mysuru.

The procession culminates at the Mysore Palace, where the elephants are welcomed with traditional fanfare and the hoisting of the Dasara flag.

Dasara 2024 Schedule

The Mysuru Dasara festival 2024 will be held from October 12 to 19. The festival is a grand celebration of the victory of good over evil and attracts millions of visitors from around the world.
